Beyond the canvas, Robert's background in international architecture and interior design informs his spatial awareness and aesthetic precision. In late 2025, his contributions to the visual arts were further recognised by SANAVA, (South African National Association for the Visual Arts) leading to a prestigious residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France.

Robert isn't the only painter in the family, he shares a deep love for the medium with his mother, Anni Thirtle. The two have frequently exhibited their work together in group shows.

Despite his busy schedule running a gallery and preparing for exhibitions, he has dedicated time to mastering the French language, a skill that surely came in handy during his time in Paris.
